[SYNOPSIS]
런던에서 직장을 잃고 생계의 위기를 맞닥뜨린 주인공은 <1년간 돈을 사용하지 않고 살기> 프로젝트를 시작한다. 주인공은 생존에 필요한 세 가지. 잠잘 곳, 먹을 것, 이동수단을 돈을 사용하지 않고 해결할 방법을 찾아 나선다. 먼저 런던에서는 낭비에서 생존의 열쇠를 찾는다. 빈 건물을 무단 점거하는 스퀏팅과 보트에서 사는 친구가 여행을 떠난 동안 보트를 돌봐주는 보트 시팅으로 잠잘 곳을 마련하고, 버려진 음식을 주워 먹는 스킵다이빙으로 먹거리를 구하며, 자전거 가게에서 공짜로 얻은 자전거를 타고 다닌다. 주인공은 환경 문제와 생태적 삶에 전혀 관심이 없지만 공짜로 먹여주고 재워준다는 말에 영국 시골의 친환경 공동체들을 찾아가고, 조금씩 자급자족 생계와 자연적 삶의 방식의 중요성을 깨닫는다. 영국을 떠나선 히치하이크로 유럽을 여행한다. 자연인들과 야생에서 생활하며 자연과의 연결을 회복하고, 스무 명의 히피와 대형 카라반으로 여행하며 참된 자유와 평화의 길을 찾기 위한 흐름에 자신을 맡긴다.
돈을 사용하지 않는 여정 속에서 주인공은 가능성의 한계가 사라지는 대자유를 경험한다. 그러나 동시에 돈 없이 떠도는 여성이 마주해야 하는 온갖 위험과 두려움을 맞닥뜨린다. 그리스에서 프로젝트 1주년을 맞이한 주인공은 두려움에서 벗어나기 위한 길을 찾고자 더욱 무모한 여정을 이어간다. 돈과 계획 없이 튀르키예와 이란을 여행하며 모든 인간의 가슴에 자리한 사랑과 연민의 자질을 경험하고, 모든 존재가 하나로 연결되어 있다는 진리에 눈을 뜬다. 그러나 주인공은 이란의 한적한 시골에서 오토바이 운전자에게 칼로 위협받는 사건을 겪게 되고, 여정을 이끌던 '연결'에 대한 믿음이 송두리째 흔들린다.

[DIRECTOR'S NOTE]
이 프로젝트는 '어떻게 먹고살지?'라는 생존 욕구의 질문에서 시작한다. 가진 돈이 없고 타국 땅에서 다른 일자리를 구할 수 없던 주인공이 생존을 위해 할 수 있는 유일한 일은 바로 돈을 사용하지 않는 것이었다. 주인공은 돈 없이 먹고 살 방법을 찾아 순전히 자신의 생존만을 위해 무모한 모험을 시작한다.
그런데 이 여정은 주인공이 조금도 예측하지 못한 방향으로 흘러간다. 소비하지 않는 여정 속에서 주인공은 주거 문제, 낭비 문제, 빈곤 문제, 환경 문제, 국경 문제, 난민 문제, 여성 문제 등을 마주하며 바깥세상의 문제를 새롭게 인식하고, 동시에 자신의 내면세계의 문제를 끊임없이 마주한다. 주인공은 세상의 문제와 자신의 내면 문제를 포함한 모든 위기의 근본 원인이 '분리'와 '단절'에 있음을 깨닫고, '연결'을 회복하고자 무모한 여정을 이어간다.
이 영화의 핵심 주제는 단순히 '돈 없이 살기'가 아니다. <담요를 입은 사람>은 나와 타인, 자연, 세상과의 분리를 극복하고, 존재와 존재 사이의 '연결'을 회복하는 여정을 그린다. 돈을 사용하지 않는 삶에서 마주하는 연결과 연대, 연민의 경험은 주인공에게 새로운 방식의 생존과 사랑, 그리고 존재의 의미를 찾아가는 길을 열어준다.
지금 이 순간 세상의 많은 사람이 주인공이 겪은 것과 같은 처절한 생존 투쟁을 벌이고 있다. 이 생존에 대한 두려움이 바로 경쟁과 불안, 기후 재앙과 생태계 파괴, 전쟁과 각종 분쟁의 원인이다. 지금 우리에게 필요한 것은 무엇일까? 우리를 분리시키는 생존 경쟁이 아니라 우리 모두가 하나로 연결되어 있다는 사랑의 진리를 회복하는 일이 아닐까? 이 연결의 세상에서는 모든 존재가 연결되어 있고, 나와 당신이 하나이므로 아무것도 두려워할 게 없다. 경쟁할 필요도 없다. 빼앗을 필요도 없고 더 가질 필요도 없다. 서로의 생존을 애처롭게 여기고 서로의 생명을 함께 돌보는 세상. 그 어떤 경계와 차별 없이 하나의 가족으로 사는 세상. 이 따뜻한 세상을 맞이하는 데 <담요를 입은 사람>이 하나의 씨앗이 되기를 기도한다.

After losing her job in London and facing a crisis, the protagonist embarks on a project titled "Living Without Using Money for a Year." She seeks ways to meet her basic needs—shelter, food, and transportation—without using money.
In London, she learns survival strategies by squatting in abandoned buildings and boat-sitting while the owners are away. She gathers food through dumpster diving and rides a free bicycle she obtained from a bike shop.
Despite having no interest in environmental issues or ecological living, she is drawn to eco-friendly communities in the British countryside by the promise of free food and shelter, gradually realizing the importance of self-sufficient living and natural ways of life.
After leaving the UK, she hitchhikes across Europe, living with off-grid people and in the wild to reconnect with nature. Travelling with twenty hippies in a large caravan, she surrenders to the flow in search of true freedom and peace.
During her journey without money, she experiences immense freedom, yet also encounters tremendous risks and fears that a woman travelling without money must confront.
After celebrating the one-year anniversary of her project in Greece, she embarks on an even more reckless journey in search of a way to overcome her fears. Travelling through Türkiye and Iran without money or a plan, she encounters the qualities of love and compassion in every human heart and awakens to the truth that all beings are interconnected. However, in a remote rural area of Iran, she faces a threatening situation with a motorbike driver, causing her faith in "connection" to waver.

This project begins with the desperate question: "How will I survive?"
With no money and unable to find another job in a foreign land, the protagonist's only option for survival was to not use money. She embarks on a reckless adventure solely for her own survival, seeking ways to live without money. However, this journey takes unexpected turns.
Through a journey of non-consumption, she encounters issues like housing, waste, poverty, environmental problems, borders, refugees, and women's issues, coming to see the world's problems in a new light. At the same time, she continuously confronts the problems within her own inner world. The protagonist realizes that the root cause of all fears, including the world's problems and her own inner struggles, is "separation" and "disconnection." To restore "connection," the protagonist continues her reckless journey.
The core theme of this film is not merely "living without money." 'Blanket Wearer' portrays the journey of overcoming the separation between oneself, others, nature, and the world, and restoring the "connection" between all beings. The experiences of connection, solidarity, and compassion in a life without money open the way for her to find new ways of survival, love, and meaning of existence.
At this very moment, many people in the world are fighting a desperate battle for survival, just like the protagonist. This fear of survival is the root cause of competition, anxiety, climate catastrophes, environmental destruction, wars, and various conflicts. What do we need now? Instead of the survival competition that divides us, perhaps we need to restore the truth of love—that we are all connected as one.
In a world of connection, all beings are united, and if you and I are one, there is nothing to fear. There is no need to compete, no need to take, no need to have more. It becomes a world where we regard each other's survival with compassion and take care of each other's lives together, where we live as one family without borders or discrimination. I hope that Blanket Wearer becomes a seed for welcoming this warm world.
