[SYNOPSIS]
Yeong-gyeong, an alcoholic, and Su-hwan, a rheumatoid arthritis patient, meet for the first time at a friend's wedding. Both their own marriages failed. Su-hwan, an iron worker since the age of 20, filed for divorce on paper, at his wife's suggestion, when his ironworks went bankrupt and he became a credit delinquent saddled with huge debts. After the supposedly fake divorce, Su-hwan's wife sold off all their remaining property, of which he was completely unaware, and disappeared without a trace. Owing to so much debt, Su-hwan cannot get health insurance or proper treatment. As a result, the rheumatic inflammation spreads to his spine, causing all kinds of complications. Yeong-gyeong, formerly a Korean language teacher, divorced immediately after giving birth to a baby, after a year of marriage. Following the divorce, her ex-husband's family secretly emigrated to Canada with her baby. Yeong-gyeong became addicted to alcohol after her child was taken from her. Unable to continue teaching students in her alcoholic state, she quit her job. The two meet after having lost everything. They do not try to stop, persuade, or correct each other's shortcomings. They simply watch each other in their downward spiral and suffer together.

The wounded live upon the ruins. Yeong-gyeong and Su-hwan. They walk the streets, take the subway, and return home, with the fatal daggers hidden in their pockets. They are the people of the Sewol Ferry disaster and the Itaewon tragedy. Will the film, a record of such wounded people living on the ruins, be seen as art?
Yeong-gyeong and Su-hwan in Spring Night are Homo Sacers. Alive but worthless and abandoned, unfit even for sacrifice to God, a non-existence that must not be permitted into the community. Two such outcasts love each other, but it is a 'miserable love' that cannot be called pure or noble. This film attempts to depict such a 'miserable love.'

[SYNOPSIS]
알코올 중독자 영경과 류머티즘 환자인 수환은 친구의 결혼식장에서 처음 만난다. 둘 모두 첫 결혼을 파했다. 스무 살부터 쇠를 만지는 일을 해온 수환은 운영하던 철공소가 부도를 맞자 아내의 권유로 위장이혼을 했다가 큰 빚을 떠안고 신용불량자가 된다. 위장 이혼 후, 수환의 아내는 수환 모르게 남은 재산을 처분해서 종적을 감췄다. 큰 빚을 떠안고 신용불량자가 된 수환은 건강보험에 가입할 수 없어 치료를 제대로 받지 못한다. 그 바람에 염증은 척추까지 퍼지고 온갖 합병증이 발병하는 지경에까지 이른다.
국어교사였던 영경은 결혼 1년 후 아이를 낳고 바로 이혼한다. 이혼 후 전남편의 식구들은 영경 몰래 아이를 데리고 캐나다로 이민 간다. 아이와 생이별을 하게 된 영경은 알코올 중독에 빠진다. 알코올 중독에 빠진 상태론 학생들을 가르칠 수 없어서 선생을 그만둔다.
둘은 모든 것을 잃었을 때 만났다. 이들은 서로의 결점을 말리고 설득하고 교정하려 하지 않는다. 서로의 몰락을 지켜봐주고 함께 앓을 뿐이다.

[DIRECTOR'S NOTE]
상처 입은 채 폐허 위에 산다. 영경과 수환. 죽을 단도를 주머니에 숨겨두고 길을 걷고 지하철을 타고 집으로 돌아간다. 세월호의 사람들이며, 이태원의 사람들이다. 영화는 상처를 안고 폐허를 사는 사람들을 기록해 예술이 될까.
<봄밤>의 영경과 수환은 호모 사케르이다. 신에게조차 바쳐질 수 없는 버림받은 생명, 공동체에 들어와서는 안 될 비존재. 이들이 사랑을 한다. 순수하다 고결하다 할 수 없는, 그냥 '처참한 사람'이다. 영화는 '처참한 사랑', 이 사랑을 그리려 한다.
