[SYNOPSIS]
일본 오사카 이쿠노구에 위치한 ‘이카이노’는 1910년대부터 자의반 타의반 현해탄을 건너 일본으로 간 조선인들이 현재까지도 모여 살고 있는 재일 조선인들의 집단 거주지다. 그들은 이카이노에서 일제강점기와 해방, 제주 4.3사건, 한국전쟁 등, 격동의 근현대사를 관통하며 지난 100년 동안 한국과 일본, 북한, 그 어디에도 속하지 못한 채 경계인으로 살아왔다. 그 경계의 땅에서 이방인으로 살아온 재일 조선인 1세대인 임신출 할머니, 2세대인 부영철, 4세대인 조청향, 그리고 재일 조선인 사이에서 살아온 일본인 이데 카즈시 등의 이야기를 통해 이카이노라는 디아스포라 공간을 탐색하고 그들의 삶과 역사에 주목한다. 그리고 새로운 다문화 다양성의 공간으로 변화되어 가는 이카이노를 사유한다.

동아시아의 근현대사와 전쟁 속에서 이리저리 요동쳐 온 경계인들의 땅이다. 이카이노라는 공간과 그곳에 사는 사람들의 이야기를 통해 디아스포라 역사의 다변화 공간이라는 관점에서 바라본다. 이방인과 이민자들의 공간인 이카이노는 사실 전세계 곳곳에 또다른 이름으로 존재한다. 그래서 이 이야기는 우리 시대 우리 세계의 이야기이기도 하다.

[SYNOPSIS]
Located in Ikuno Ward, Osaka, Japan, Ikaino is a communal settlement where Zainichi Koreans—who migrated from Korea by choice or circumstance since the 1910s—have lived continuously. Over the past century, through the Japanese colonial era, liberation, the Jeju 4.3 Incident, and the Korean War, they have endured as marginalized people belonging neither to Korea, Japan, nor North Korea.
Through the stories of first-generation grandmother Im Sin-chul, second-generation Bu Young-chul, fourth-generation Cho Chung-hyang, and Japanese resident Ide Kazushi, who grew up among Zainichi Koreans, the film explores Ikaino as a diaspora space, focusing on their lives and history. It also reflects on Ikaino’s ongoing transformation into a multicultural and diverse community.
[DIRECTORS' NOTE]
Ikaino is a land of borderlanders, tossed about amid East Asia’s modern history and wars. Through the space of Ikaino and the stories of its people, this film views the site as a multifaceted space of diaspora history. As a place of outsiders and immigrants, Ikaino exists in many forms across the world under different names. Thus, this story is also a story of our time and our world.
