(Grounding)

[INFORMATION]

[SYNOPSIS]

[DIRECTORS' NOTE]

[SYNOPSIS]

TAK, who brought to light sexual violence cases in the publishing company and literary scene, struggles to rebuild her life in the aftermath of #MeToo. Waking up, eating, washing, and stepping outside are daily acts charged with constant tension and a battle against herself. The ground she stands on is Sang-yeoja’s Grounding Tactic—an art collective created by survivors and allies. Each week, they gather in a safe space to share snacks, voice their anger toward returning perpetrators, and weep and laugh together. They also run art programs for sexual violence survivors and allies, expanding their shared safe haven. But this community, too, is far from perfect. Expectations clash, wounds surface, and relationships crack.

Over the past five years, the film follows their efforts to keep speaking, moving, and reconnecting within these imperfect bonds. TAK and the members practice their own grounding at their own pace, tracing the slow, uneven ridgeline of recovery.

[DIRECTOR’S NOTE]

I experienced sexual violence while making a film. It took me years to recognize and call myself a 'sexual violence survivor.' I only belatedly realized that the so-called ‘strange things' that occurred in intimate relationships were, in fact, physical and psychological violence. As I slowly walked the ridge of my recovery, I finally looked around and met other survivors and allies who were each climbing their own ridges.

The film <Grounding> starts with the concept of 'grounding,' a stabilization technique used in trauma therapy. This technique involves feeling your feet on the ground and bringing yourself back to the 'here and now.' The film documents four years in the lives of survivors of sexual violence in the artistic fields and their allies as they traverse their recovery ridges. During the #MeToo movement, individuals from various fields such as literature, dance, and visual arts fought fiercely.

Now, they seek to create new platforms for growth through art. With the wave of feminism receding and perpetrators being released from prison, survivors still struggle to return to their daily lives. Through this film, we aim to embrace the past wounds of those who fought together and gather strength for the battles ahead.
