퀸의 뜨개질 (Queen’s Crochet)

[SYNOPSIS]
10살에 할머니 ‘춘자’로부터 신부수업으로 뜨개질을 배운 한나. 뜨개질을 배운지 15년이 지나 어린이에서 어른이 된 한나는 자신의 방을 뜨개질의 세계로 만든다. 하지만 여전히 남들에게 한나의 뜨개질은 그저 그런 취미일 뿐이다. 한나는 여성으로 살아가면서 느끼는 혼란스러움에 대해 생각한다.
과거의 기억에서 벗어나지 못하는 한나는 코바늘 뜨개질의 최고봉, ‘만다라 매드니스’를 제작하면서 과거의 경험과 감정을 만다라에 담기로 한다. 한나는 가장 사소하고 여성스러운 뜨개질로 가장 거대한 반란을 꿈꾼다.
그렇게 밤낮으로 실을 얽고, 실을 풀고를 반복하던 한나는 마침내 만다라를 완성한다. 한나는 완성된 만다라를 전시하고 그 앞에서 드랙퀸과 드랙킹이 되어본다. 할머니의 뜨개질은 무엇이었을까 상상하며 노래를 부르고 춤을 춘다. 그 노래의 끝은 이렇다. “춘자 can be anyone."
[DIRECTOR'S NOTE]
뜨개질을 하면서 나는 영화를 만든다. 과거의 기억의 조각들이 가느다란 실이고, 이들이 엮여서 뜨개물이 되어 영화가 된다. 정교하게 완성 된 뜨개물을 자세히 들여다보면 촘촘하게 지나간 시간의 흐름이 보인다. 나는 그러한 지나간 시간의 코들을 수집하고 다시 풀고 얽고를 반복해서 이야기를 만들고자 한다. 미래에도 나는 혼란스러울 것이고, 그 때마다 뜨개질을 하면서 그저 그 시간이 지나가기를 기다릴 것이다. 나는 사회가 정상이라는 간주하는 것에서 지속적으로 이탈할 것이다. 또한 뜨개질로서 상징되는 ‘여성스러운 것’이라는 폄하의 시선을 역이용하여 대범한 반란을 꾀하려고 한다. 한국 사회 속 자신의 정체성을 경계에 두고 질문해야 하는 사람들에게 이 영화를 통해 젠더적 혼란 그 자체에 대한 긍정과 지지의 메시지를 전하며 경계에 선 모든 사람이 자신의 가능성에 한계를 두지 않는 시대가 오기를 바란다.

[SYNOPSIS]
Hanna learned to crochet as a bridal class from her grandmother Chunza. 15 years passed, and Hanna had grown from a child to an adult. To Hanna, crocheting is a meditation to relieve her confusing emotions. But to others, crocheting is nothing important but a girl’s hobby.
Hanna has gone through the confusing experiences of being a woman. The experience of getting a kiss from a boy at a kindergarten birthday party. Wanting to be a man by cutting her hair. Asking to date her friend, a girl, for the first time at 17.
Hanna decides to reflect her past emotions by crocheting 'Mandala Madness,' the finest final round of crochet. Hanna dreams of the most significant rebellion with the considered most trivial and feminine thing.
Hanna hangs the completed Mandala and becomes a drag queen and king in front of it. Hanna thinks about the meaning of crocheting that Chunza taught her and sings and dances. The song ends like this. "Chunza can be anyone."
[DIRECTOR'S NOTE]
By knitting, I make a movie. The pieces of past memories are thin threads, and they are woven together to become knitted and become a movie. If you look closely at the finely completed knitted water, you can see the flow of time that has passed closely. I want to collect the noses of those past times, solve them again, and make a story over and over again. In the future, I will be confused, and I will just wait for the time to pass, knitting every time. That's how I'm going to do some kind of coming-out through this movie. I will continue to deviate from what society considers normal, remembering the first time I doubted the identity of a straight woman who was decided regardless of my will. In addition, they try to seek a bold rebellion by using the disparaging view of "feminine" symbolized as knitting. Through this film, we hope that there will be an era in which everyone on the border will not put limits on their possibilities, conveying a message of affirmation and support for gender confusion itself to those who have to ask questions with their identity on the border.
