[SYNOPSIS]
Universe Department Store existed in Cheonho-dong, Seoul in the 1980s. There was a spaceship ride in front of that unfolded a vast universe for me when I rode it. The universe I saw at the time merged with places in my childhood and would appear in my dreams as strange shapes. What is the source of these strange dreams that make sudden visits even to this day? In order to solve this lingering question, I began to dig into my memories of Universe Department Store and places from my childhood.
[DIRECTOR'S NOTE]
There are times when old memories pop into my mind at unexpected moments. Universe Department Store, which I had forgotten all the while, suddenly returned to my mind one day. My memory of it is vague, but on the other hand, just as vivid as if I were sharing the same time and space with it this very moment. Vagueness and vividness. Delicate emotions are tangled in the gap between the two, and both seem mutually unreachable. The source of these emotions is places from my childhood, and I will attempt to narrow the distance between vagueness and vividness through those places. Universe Department Store is the starting line of the attempt.

[SYNOPSIS]
1980년대 서울 천호동에는 유니버스 백화점이 있었다. 백화점 앞에는 우주선 모양의 놀이 기구가 있었고, 놀이 기구를 탑승하면 광활한 우주가 펼쳐졌다. 이때 본 우주의 모습은 유년기의 장소들과 결합되어 기이한 형태의 꿈으로 나타나곤 했다. 현재까지도 불현듯 찾아오는 이 기묘한 꿈의 근원은 어디에서부터 시작된 것일까? 풀리지 않는 의문을 해결하고자 유니버스 백화점과 유년기의 장소들에 대한 기억을 파헤쳐 보기 시작했다.
[DIRECTOR'S NOTE]
생각지도 못한 순간에 오래된 기억이 불쑥 찾아올 때가 있다. 그동안 잊고 있었던 유니버스 백화점 또한 어느 날 불현듯 찾아왔다. 백화점에 대한 기억은 아득하기만 하지만 한편으로는 지금 이 순간 같은 시공간에 있는 것처럼 생생하기도 하다. 아득함과 생생함. 서로 닿을 수 없을 것 같은 두 간극 사이에는 미묘한 감정이 뒤엉켜있다. 이 감정의 근원은 유년 시절의 장소들에 있고, 이제 그 장소들을 통해 아득함과 생생함의 거리를 좁혀보려 한다. 그 시도의 출발선상에 유니버스 백화점이 있다.
