[SYNOPSIS]
M은 과거 일본에서 태어나 해방 이후 가족과 함께 다시 조국으로 넘어오게 된다. 이후 그는 도공이자 기술자로, 조선소의 노동자로 또 사업가로서 살아가게 된다. 이러한 직업들의 변화는 그가 4번의 개명 끝에 가지게 된 여러 이름들 처럼 그의 불안한 삶과 겹쳐진다.
[DIRECTOR'S NOTE]
노인이 겪어온 굴곡진 삶의 기억은 바래진 사진이나 사물들처럼 어떤 흔적들만을 남기고 있거나, 현재는 그마저도 사라진 것 같았다. 나는 그 흔적들, 현재 그가 살아가고 있는 단조로운 삶과 주변의 공간을 카메라로 관찰하면서, 동시에 기억의 파편처럼 구술되는 내래이션을 통해 이질적인 사건과 공간들을 연결 시켰다. 노인의 경험과 기억을 하나의 완성된 형태로 귀결하기보다 그를 둘러싼 현실 속의 장소와 사물에 잠재된 여러 의미들에 주목하고자 하였다.

[SYNOPSIS]
‘M’ was born in Japan where he left after the Korean Liberation and lived in Korea for the rest of his life as a pottery worker, a craftsman, a shipyard worker, and as a businessman. The different jobs he had had are like the four events he had throughout the life to change his name, in which they overlap with his unstable life.
[DIRECTOR'S NOTE]
The memories of the old man’s resistant life are now like images in faded photos or shards from old trinkets, barely remaining or almost lost. While observing the trace of his past and the monotonous days he is living today, I intended the narration of the film to appear as how his fragmented memory prevails; such tone, also, was used to connect events and places which are seemingly disparate in the narrative of the film. Rather than concluding the old man’s experiences and memories into a comprehensive form, the focus was to attend to the various possible meanings that are found in the surrounding places and objects found from the presence of life.
