[SYNOPSIS]
셔터문이 반쯤 닫힌 가게 안에 한 남자가 있다. 손님도 찾아오지 않는 이 공간에는 ‘보성타일 인테리어’라고 적힌 간판과는 다르게 캔버스와 미술도구, 그리다 만 그림들이 놓여 있다. 남자는 매일 아침부터 해질 무렵까지 이곳에 머물며 캔버스에 붓질을 하거나 흔들의자에 몸을 기대 하루를 보낸다. 이렇게 반복되는 일과는 그의 삶을 지탱하는 일부분이 되기도 하고, 셔터문 밖의 세상과 그를 단절하게도 만든다. 여름에서 가을로, 겨울에서 봄으로 흘러가는 세상의 계절과 다르게 그의 시간은 알 수 없는 곳을 떠다닌다. 영화는 의심과 다짐이 교차하는 그의 시간들을 이 작은 공간 한편에서 찬찬히 지켜본다.

[DIRECTOR’S NOTE]
이 영화는 예술가가 자신의 삶과 작품에 대해 설명하는 것을 인터뷰하고 그에 걸맞은 이미지를 인서트로 활용하는 기존의 아티스트 필름과는 다른 방식으로 대상에 접근한다. 넓게 보았을 때 예술가의 삶은 일반인의 삶과 크게 다르지 않다. 다만, 생산적인 활동의 결과물을 재화의 가치유무로 따지기 시작하면서 이들을 다르게 보았을 뿐이다. 연출자는 예술가를 특별한 존재로 바라보지 않는다. 따라서 인물이 예술가인 것을 전면에 내세우기보다는 한 개인의 삶을 차근차근 들여다보는 것에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 이러한 접근방식은 예술가의 진술을 토대로 작가/작품론을 다루는 것과 달리, 엇비슷하게 반복되는 일상을 관찰하고 기록하는 것을 큰 줄기로 삼고 있다. 이를 통해서 보편적인 삶 속에서 어떻게 예술이 자리하고 있는지, 과연 예술가의 삶이 특별한 것인지 질문을 던진다.

[SYNOPSIS]
A man is inside a store where the shutter door is half closed. There are no customers at this store, and although the sign says “Boseong Tile Interiors,” the space is filled with canvas, art tools and unfinished paintings. The man stays here every day from morning until sunset and spends his day painting on canvas or resting on the rocking chair. His repetitive routine forms a part that holds his life together, and yet, it also disconnects him from the world outside the shutter door. Unlike the seasons of the world that flow from summer to autumn, from winter to spring, his time floats around in unknown places. From a corner in this small space, the film carefully observes his time crisscrossed with doubt and resolution.

[DIRECTOR’S NOTE]
This documentary takes an approach different from the existing films that interviews an artist explaining about his/her life and work and uses appropriate images as inserts. From a bird’s eye view, however, an artist’s life is not so different from that of an ordinary person. We saw artists differently only when we started to measure the results of productive activities according to whether they have the value as goods. The director of this film does not view the artist as a special entity. Therefore, he focuses on looking carefully at the life of an individual rather than pushing the fact that the subject is an artist in the forefront. Instead of dealing with artists /explications of artworks based on the statements of the artists, this approach takes on the main path of observing and recording the daily life of an artist repeating almost the same way every day. Through this approach, this documentary poses such questions as: How does art establishes itself within universal lives? Is an artist’s life indeed special or different from ours?
