아버지 고향 구룡포에는 돌아가신 할아버지 명의로 된 선산이 있다. 최근에서야 이 사실을 알게 된 나는 장마를 앞둔 어느 여름날 무작정 선산을 찾아가 보기로 했다.

[DIRECTOR’S NOTE]
아들은 철거를 앞둔 주택가를 배회하며 어떤 정서를 머금게 된다. 그렇게 쌓여간 정서는 굳건한 탑처럼 세워졌고 이내 고립된 섬이 되어버렸다. 영화는 아들의 정서를 포착하려 애쓰고 있으며, 그렇게 수면 위로 끌어올리고 싶어하는 정서라는 것은 아련한 상실감과 맞닿아 있는 듯하다. 상실감은 어린 조카를 통해 자신의 유년기를 반추하는 과정 속에서도, 아버지의 세월을 되짚어보며 한 개인사의 미약한 숭고함을 바라보는 순간 속에서도 유효하게 자리했고, 그사이 어느새 아들의 발길은 선산으로 향하게 되었다.
아들은 생각해본다. 도시개발이라는 광적인 속도 속에 개개인의 흔적은 하찮게 휩쓸려가는 듯 보이지만 그렇다고 해서 그것이 쉽사리 삭제되는 것만은 아닐 거라고, 선산의 소유주로 할아버지의 이름 석 자가 여전히 유효한 것처럼.

[SYNOPSIS]
Our family gravesite registered in my late grandfather’s name is in my father’s hometown, Guryongpo. I became aware of this only recently. So, one summer day before the rainy season started, I just decided to visit the gravesite.

[DIRECTOR’S NOTE]
The son got stuck in an emotion wandering around a residential area that is to be demolished. That emotion piled up and turned into a firm tower, and his heart eventually became an isolated island. The film is trying to capture that emotion of the son, and it seems that the emotion that is hoped to be revealed is linked with a vague sense of loss. That sense of loss was effectively present in the course of ruminating on his childhood through his young nephew and even in the moment of perceiving the faint sublimity of a personal history while reflecting on his father's years. In the meantime and without his knowledge, the son was headed for the family gravesite.
The son thinks. The traces of individual people may appear to be swept away in the frenzy of fast urban development, but perhaps they are not that easily deleted, as evidenced by the fact that the name of his grandfather is still valid as the owner of the family gravesite.
